Someone got to enjoy the snow for the first time on this balmy 48 degree day! I’ve been wanting to take Max out in the snow since the very first flakes of the season, but it has been ridiculously cold! So cold, that we’ve had several days off of school because of the sub-zero temperatures. It’s the kind of cold that hurts to breathe, and it stings your face…so there was no way we were going out in that! But today it finally reached the mid-forties, and I knew I wanted to take Max outside to get his first experience in the snow before it all melted away.
My mom bought Max this snowsuit at a store-closing sale while I was still pregnant with him, and I couldn’t believe that my baby would ever be big enough to fit in it. It seemed so monstrous. While it may not have fit him perfectly (he’s a little too short for it), he definitely filled it out in the middle. This kid has QUITE the tummy these days.
I thought for sure that he would immediately stick his mouth in it (since that’s what he does with everything)…but surprisingly, he didn’t. In-fact, he didn’t taste it at all, until Mimi reached down and handed him a snowball to lick….which he was NOT a fan of. Evidently it was too cold for his liking.
Max made some beautiful snow slugs today too. (Snow slugs are similar to snow angels…except instead of lying still and waving your arms and legs beautifully…you drag your body through the snow, leaving a slug-like trail behind you). See, Max still hasn’t quite figured out the whole crawling thing yet. He stretches his arms out far, and then pulls his whole body behind him, without moving his legs. Typically, he’ll do this until he reaches a place where he can pull himself up on his legs, and then he’ll hold on to things and walk around. The kid has basically decided that he’s going to skip crawling and go straight to walking.
This kid LIVES for being outside, and we’ve been cooped up inside for too long! I’m so thankful it warmed up enough to get this little snow slug outside today. We’re looking forward to spring-time though, so we can enjoy some nice warm walks and trips to the park!
