A few weeks back, Bryce turned 25… a whole quarter of a century!! I really, really wanted to be able to throw him a surprise party with all of his friends and our family around…but with a new baby, new jobs, and the beginning of our super busy holiday season…it just wasn’t possible. I was really sad about it, but I was determined to make it special nonetheless. I decided to give him 25 gifts–one for each of his trips around the sun (complete with 25 balloons). Ultimately, he was incredibly surprised and felt very celebrated and loved that day.
(For a gift of your own, read more about the $100 GIVEAWAY at the end of this post !)
My love language is gift-giving, so this was the ultimate opportunity for me to show Bryce how much I loved him by picking out intentional gifts. At first…I thought it would be easy. But it turns out that picking 25 intentional gifts is really hard. I’ve been keeping a running list throughout the year of small, inexpensive things that I could give him that he would think were funny or useful (I’m talking to you, frozen box of White Castle Sliders and new winter gloves)…
But I really wanted to be able to give him something beautiful, meaningful, and sentimental as well–something to show him how much I appreciate him in all the craziness that this past year has brought us–something that would last him another 25 years or more– something he could give to Max someday as a gift if he wanted.
Bryce loves watches. His most prized possession is a pocket watch that belonged to his Great Grandfather. He wore this to our wedding, and keeps it on display in our house…so I figured that a new watch would be the perfect FINAL gift for him.
But because all my gifts have to have some sort of meaning to them, I knew it couldn’t just be any watch. When I discovered Jord Wood Watches, I knew that’s where I had to get his 25th gift from. Jord’s wooden watches are made in St. Louis, which is perfect because we just moved from there four months ago. We started our marriage and our lives together in St. Louis, so I knew he would love this sentimental aspect. After mulling it over for a while, I decided to gift him the Dover Koa and Black watch.
Bryce also is a simple man…with classic taste. He loves the outdoors and makes a living running camps for kids. His grandfather is a wood-worker, and I knew that he would absolutely love that the band is made of real wood.
The part that I loved most about the Dover Koa and Black watch, is the face! The gears are in full view thanks to the extremely durable and crystal clear sapphire glass, which reminds me of his Great-Grandfather’s pocket watch that he cherishes so much.
I could have made this watch even more special by choosing to have it engraved, however…I was too anxious to get it on his wrist and didn’t even think about it until after.
The watch came in the most GORGEOUS wooden box, which is just as gorgeous as the watch itself. It didn’t even need wrapping.
When Bryce finally opened his watch…he was stunned. He loved the color, and the open face. He about lost his mind when he discovered that it is self-winding and doesn’t require a battery. He immediately put it on, and has barely taken it off since. Max is also developing quite an affinity for watches now…. I may have to try and convince Jord to start making watches for babies too!
And while I may have looked like a crazy woman running out of the Dollar Store holding 25 balloons and a baby in a car seat…this ’25 gifts for 25 trips around the sun’ plan turned out to be a pretty great way to celebrate my incredible husband. We were able to spend it with just the three of us. It was a simple night, full of lots of balloons, lots of unwrapping, and lots of love.
I’m thrilled with how much Bryce loved his 25th gift, and thrilled with the amazing quality and beauty of this watch. And I’m thrilled that Jord has partnered with me to give one of my lucky readers a $100 gift card to their site!
