Last week, I was really starting to question whether or not that Punxutawney Phil had made the correct call back on February 2…Here in the St. Louis region we had several days with 70°+ temperatures and let me tell you…they were NICE! I tried to utilize each one to spend some time outside, soaking up the extra Vitamin D and getting some much needed exercise by taking walks. On Sunday, we were invited by some dear friends to spend the day with them at their campsite about an hour away, so we hopped in the car and went…because if it’s 70° in February…you don’t pass by on a chance to spend it in the great outdoors! I decided to bring my new Nikon that I got for Christmas with me so I could try and get more comfortable taking pictures with it before Baby Boy Joyner makes his appearance (in just 69 days!!!). My two friends, Katelyn and Heather who were there are excellent photographers, so they sat down with me and gave me some lessons on aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and plenty of other camera terminology that I’m sure my pregnancy brain has since made me forget. I had some fun finally being able to take my fancy camera off of Automatic mode, and really start to get to see what it can do on Manual mode.
We thought we’d take advantage of the scenery to take a few shots of the two of us together (three including our baby bump), and pretty soon it just turned into us acting ridiculous.
Then Heather whipped out her camera and awesome lenses and offered to take a few pictures of the two of us…and they turned out AMAZING! She made it look like we planned our outfits and got all gussied up for the pictures when we totally didn’t. Taking pictures with Bryce again was reminiscent of last February when we snagged a 50° day (which felt oh-so-warm back then) to take our engagement pictures with Mandy. It’s hard to believe how much has happened in the last year since that day!
We ended our night with some delicious beef stew cooked in a cast iron skillet over the fire, and some amazing homemade bread (our friends totally brought their bread maker with them and plugged it in so we could have fresh bread at the campsite).
And now….six days later…it’s back to 30°…February has returned. But we’re so thankful for the little window that God gave us to enjoy the outdoors last weekend!
How did you enjoy the unseasonably warm temperatures these past few weeks?
